Protect Your Brain

Printer-Friendly Format

Are you doing enough to keep your brain healthy? Currently, an increasing number of people around the world are now afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease, and the numbers continue to compound. But more and more studies are coming out that show this debilitating disease may be kept at bay. One study [University of California at Irvine, Journal of Neuroscience] showed that by consuming foods that have a higher ratio of Omega-3 to Omega-6, aids in delaying one of the proteins responsible for "tangling" the brain. Another study by researchers in Chicago [Rush University Medical Center, Neurology] showed that cognitive exercise was correlated with lower levels of dementia. Examples of foods higher in Omega-3 include wild-caught Alaskan salmon and flax seeds. Brain activities include playing chess, learning a new song, and going to the theatre.

As always, consult your health of medical professional for any questions.
